Change Management

World vision case study Change management
Change management is a common term used to refer to a well organized framework by which organizations, individuals or teams move from one phase or state of operation to a more efficient state. A large organization intending to involve its whole system in this kind of change can apply an appreciative inquiry approach or to a lesser extent traditional approach to arrive at an effective change management.

Appreciative Inquiry is a more of a collaborative transformation in management change process while the traditional management approaches were more reliant on theoretical approaches as those contained in books. The appreciative inquiry method gathers fast hand information through consequent conversations about what is happening in the field. It also creates a positive thinking attitude by exploring on the possibilities where an organization can comfortably increase productivity of every individual (ovationnet.com, n.d.).

The application of appreciative inquiry approach involves the contribution of every stakeholder especially employees in formulating the best level of their operation. This approach guarantees among other things the motivation from employees that emanate from the positive attitude employees. It is one thing to be considered in a process but it gives more satisfaction to know that one was consulted during a decision making process. In addition, the employees feel empowered and hence more dedicated in their duties. On the other hand, Traditional Change Management is more focused on problem solving. The challenge in applying this type of change management in the present day work environment is brought about by inflexibility of skills due to job specialization.

The appreciative inquiry approach succeeds in capturing employee motivation and sense of belonging which are very necessary in succeeding in realization of present day businesses. This is most applicable in organizations operating in a wide area of diverse cultural and geographical considerations. The traditional approach on the other hand applies the use of respect of the authority and laid down resolutions. This approach is very applicable in centrally run organizations (ovationnet.com, n.d.).  The advantage of using appreciative inquiry approach is that, compared to traditional approaches it tends to be more collaborative than imposing the change to the employees.
