Current Research on Anxiety Disorders and Breakthroughs

The ongoing studies on anxiety disorder have shown the condition to be a psychological sickness disturbing the young and the old. Anxiety is a common way of dealing with stress and it helps individuals to tackle demanding situations. However, excessive anxiety on daily basis is dangerous as it makes a person feel nervous and afraid (Phobia fear Release, 2010).

The ongoing investigations about anxiety disorders show that the problem can lead to some clinical conditions which may be fatal if not well treated. Current research indicates that better therapies are slowly being developed and used to treat the condition (Phobia fear Release, 2010).

According to Anxiety Disorder Resource Centre (2009), people are being stubborn and insensitive due to failed marriages and the children are feeling lonely and insecure. The ongoing research indicates that this type of parenting degrade progressive stance of a child.

The National Institute of Mental Health is carrying out studies on anxiety disorder and investigating the proper ways of establishing, treating and safeguarding people from the disorder. Current research shows the environment and the genetic constitution of an individual to play a role in causing the condition (National Institute of Mental Health 2002).

Not long ago, the illness has been treated using neurochemical procedures and brain scanning techniques. The scientific investigations show that amygdala, structures located in the brain, signals a threat leading to anxiousness. Other scientists are studying the hippocampus, the organelles that causes the brain to react in case of a threat. Modern day scientists claim that the basal ganglia and the striatum are also organelles which may play some part in the development of the condition (Phobia fear Release, 2010).  According to National Institute of Mental Health (2002), there should be more enquiries into the genetic constitution of a person to further knowledge on the disorder. It is now believed that only genetics will explain why some people are more prone to conditions like Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder than others.

Further studies and technological improvements will lead to development of better ways of combating the condition. It is now understood that the use of drugs together with behavior change oriented treatments act well against the condition. However, each of them can be used at time and prove vital. A blend of buspirone (a newly developed drug) and drugs effective against depression function well to combat serious anxiety disorders (Phobia fear Release, 2010).
