Implicit Association Test
Gender Test This IAT version concentrates on measuring stereotypes of career and family with males and females. The suggestion of IAT is that, there is an association in between male and career where the responses are faster to the category of dual male pronouns and career-related words compared to vice versa. These associations can be given descriptions like, moderate, slight, strong, or no preference or little.
Race Test This IAT version measures associations that are unconscious or automatic of bad and good with white and black people. If the test prefers some group, it is possible that you might have unconscious or hidden favors biased towards that group. The end result of a million tests and more, have a suggestion that many people have biases that are unconscious. For example, nearly two-thirds of white Americans reveal moderate or a strong bias or favor for whites as nearly half the black Americans tested. Associations that are implicit often disagree with our conscious beliefs and attitudes (Nosek, Hansen, 2008). On the other hand, it does not necessarily mean that one person is more accurate compared to the other. However, it proves that our evaluations can be unique despite the fact that they are from the same concept, the conscious and unconscious. IAT have proven to be a test that shows how quickly matching can be done or how words can be associated with pictures. It is also used to test peoples reactions and thinking in matters like age, race and sex. Thus, it is commonly known as a racism test.
Therefore, with most of the tests, the person performing the test could always defeat the test while the rest can make an increase in their score if taken more often. Implicit Association Test (IAT) is a methodology in experimenting the discipline in psychology socially for measuring the associations strength among mental objects representations in memory. IAT is a development tool of theories considered as Implicit Social Cognition, results bodies that give suggestions that cognitive processes affecting behavior naturally are unconscious and inaccessible regarding an actors observation (Nosek, Hansen, 2008). Those implicit processes have effects on perception, past events interpretation of color, and behavior influence.
In conclusion, IAT test has given the same results in terms of the bias degree, despite the fact that it has been done a million times and more. However, the individuals together with the universities who do research and have contributed to positive results, do not make any claim concerning the validity of interpretations suggested.
