Intelligence

The term intelligence refers to a certain measure of ability when a number of tests have been carried out. IQ and intelligence are different although somewhat related. Some people have always argued that intelligence is inherited while others argue that intelligence is totally independent of family genes and that it largely depends on the environmental influence. This discussion seeks to find out if intelligence is inherited.

While many people seem to be in agreement that intelligence runs through family ties, there has not as yet been identified a particular gene of intelligence. As a result multiple studies have been carried out to ascertain whether it is nature or nurture that rules in this particular debate (Ciarrochi, J.  John. M. D. 2009).

While many people may argue between these two possibilities, the fact of the matter is that both areas play a key role in influencing the intelligence of a person. This means that while part of a persons intelligence may be inherited from the parents, the environment to which an individual is exposed to especially when they are young does affect to a great extent. One may have been borne bright but the environment in which they grow in and the experiences that they face when growing will shape their level of intelligence (Ciarrochi, J.  John, M. D. 2009). They might become more intelligence or the intelligence might fade depending on the circumstances.

Thus the position as far as this debate is concerned is that both nature and nurture contributes to a persons intelligence. Perhaps the question should be to what extent these do these two factors influence a persons intelligence. Is environment more pronounced than nature as far as affecting a persons intelligence is concerned
