Culturally Sensitive Interactions and Interventions

Every kind of work environment involves relationship and most of them are multicultural. The issue of diversity has been understood or misunderstood in various ways over the years. The central tenet of work place diversity however, must be the principle of inclusiveness. Every employee needs to feel that they form part of the organization, otherwise problems arise. This study aims at describing the cultural interactions at my work place. It will as well offer suggestions on how these interactions could be revised to reflect cultural sensitivity.

Cultural Interactions
As already indicated, workplaces are environments where all sorts of cultures interact. Several laws have been legislated, with the aim of ensuring that all persons feel part of their work places. However, there still are issues that crop up in the course of work place interactions. A very common phenomenon is that persons come to work places with their unique social identities, but are unwilling to give them up (Harvey and Allard, 2008). Cultural rigidity breeds stereotypes, discrimination, prejudice, as well as privilege for some. In order to sufficiently describe this, an example may be of help (Harvey and Allard, 2008). Trad Industries received a new overall manager. He was a man with very high credentials, and had successfully held a similar position in a huge company. However, due to his color, he was simply not accepted. Junior employees argued that they could not trust his capability to lead such a huge company, even without any evidence to support their claims. As it turned out, this man became the savior of the company during the economic crisis. It is important therefore, that besides the legislations that have been set in place, proper education be offered to the masses, in order to ensure that similar incidences do not continue to occur, which unfortunately they still do. Proper company policies should also be set up, in order to ensure that cases of cultural insensitivity are sufficiently dealt with.

Conclusion
As already mentioned, working in multicultural setting could be challenging. However, if persons working within such settings are properly trained, it could be the most fulfilling setting to work in. This is because it occasions for a deeper growth in understanding, considering that various points of view are incorporated in the daily running of the institutions. It is needless to say that multicultural setting in workplaces cannot be possibly avoided in this present day.

A Response to Andreas Post
The workplace in this case, which is an agency dealing with mentally challenged persons, seems to have a lot of problems with regard to cross-cultural relationships among workers. However, the clients themselves dont seem to have any problems in as far as diversity is concerned. One might argue that it is because they are mentally challenged, which is probably the case. Clearly a lot needs to be done, in terms of bringing the workers to understand and appreciate the uniqueness and the special place that each one has in that agency.

A Response to Rissis Post
The Unique nature of this workplace, namely an Acute Care Detox Unit, makes one to imagine that there would be a lot of cultural diversity issues. However, it seems that the workers here have managed to appreciate their differences and as such effectively help those with various problems. This setting has a high level of diversity, but the ability by these workers to appreciate this makes them best placed to deal with difficult nature of their task. It still is not easy to understand how so many differences can be reconciled without any difficulties at all, considering that everyone comes with their own individuality.
