Relationship Factors

Human beings are naturally social beings and individuals personality among other factors determines our ability to establish lasting intimate relationships. There are many factors that affect intimate relationship especially between men and women. These factors vary from one community to another depending on the expectations of the partner and the benefits he or she intends to get from the relationship. However, some factors have been observed to be similar in almost all societies.

Research indicate that people from all over the world view the physical appearance of an individual as the most important factor in establishing an intimate relationship. Research indicates most men prefer women with large eyes, head full of hair and larger busts. On the other hand, women prefer men who are masculine and a deep voice. Another factor that many people consider in choosing their partners is the social status of the potential partner. Women are more attracted to socially dominant men while men are attracted to less dominant women. A more feminine woman is more likely to be attracted to a dominant man.

However, research indicates that both men and women consider the individuals qualities and personality as the most important factor in choosing a partner. In all society, both males and females prefer a kind, intelligent and understanding partner. The financial position of the potential partner has increasingly become an important factor especially for women. Women prefer men with higher earning power while men values the physical appearance. That is why women prefer relatively older men who can financially support their families. The family of origin or race of the individual has also been a major factor in some communities but the trend is changing fast where race is becoming insignificant.
