Purpose of Psychology

Psychology is a branch of Science that is concerned with the study of behavioral responses, patterns of interactions, human attitude, personality development, and social interrelationships (Longstaffe, 2000). These aforementioned areas of investigation bring a number of positive effects to aspects of human life especially to the concerns of work environments. As an employee, Psychological concepts can be used to improve my performance in the work field by manifesting the optimism and dynamism that Positive Psychology unfolds (Longstaffe, 2000). In like manner, the work area will be upgraded by the increased productivity and positive outlook that is reflected by the employees.

Three concepts in Psychology that can specifically be used in the immediate improvement of work attitude are communication, motivation, and learning (Longstaffe, 2000). More specifically, these include individual and peer-counseling, personal development workshops or management training, and mentoring, respectively (Longstaffe, 2000). The first concept, individual counseling (communication), can be used for the enhancement of intra- and interpersonal interactions which are deemed to render cooperation and communication between and among employees within the work environment.

The second concept, personal development workshops or management training (motivation), is applicable in the development of team building and in the promotion of employee-management interrelationships. This notion is based on the fact that workshops and other training methods sought to give a new perception and a renewed outlook of the pressures in the work environment, long enduring hours of office service, and a novel recognition of the goals of the company that the employees work for. Lastly, mentoring (learning) within the work area can be utilized in the resurgence of work-attributed meaning and rediscovery of the work attitudes. In general, the concepts of Psychology are needed to renew the interest and happiness of the employees in work environment as a function of the provision of psychotherapy process and intergroup dynamics between and among the management and employees. Such process will also develop the personal life of the employee and over-all behavior towards work and other endeavors in life.
