Qualitative Research (Phenomenology)
The data was collected by conducting semi-structured interviews with participants on telephone by two psychologists. Britten (1995) claims that semi-structured interview allows the researcher to get detailed information from patients on those prospects which interest them more.
The researchers carried out thematic analysis for analyzing data. Pickler (2007) agrees that this data analysis technique is appropriate for phenomenological research designs. The authors used direct quotations to highlight the experiences of respondents. Quotations were tabulated according to the derived themes to present data findings.
The phenomenology research design used in this study is appropriate as the studys objective was to explore patients experience of undergoing these examinations. Curtise and White (2005) state that lived experiences of individuals are studied in phenomenology. If I had designed this study I would have carried out a cross-sectional quantitative research along with qualitative phenomenology research and then evaluated the findings.
