Research Paper on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy towards Anger

Cognitive behavioral therapy is a form of psychotherapy which helps us recognize negative and painful thoughts, works in changing unhelpful habits and offers realistic and optimistic thoughts for healthy and effective life. This is used against mental disorders by inducing positive emotions, bring about immediate changes in how we perceive, act and feel better in such situations which will lead to desirable behavior in life.

Cognition refers to our thoughts and way of thinking while behavioral is about our actions and behaviors toward issues in our everyday life. Sometimes people encounter problems or disorders brought by negative thoughts eventually leading them into disorders or mental problems. Anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, insomnia, eating disorder and uncontrollable anger are one of those psychological problems. This paper deals about cognitive behavioral therapy on anger. We will see how this therapy acts on anger problem by people, what its advantages are and what other recommendations for treating such disorder.

Cognitive behavioral therapy is a technique which has two parts one with the cognitive and the other is on behavioral aspect. It is considered as the umbrella of all therapies because it covers the cognitive and emotive behavioral therapy. Today it is the premier psychological treatment that is used effectively for various mental disorders. The cognitive therapy aims to change the persons way of thinking causing distorted thoughts and destructive feelings. This therapy challenges the person to provide proofs on his wrong thoughts. For example, a person is very shy in any social situations because people may think that he is no good or boring. In the cognitive therapy, the person is challenged prompting to acknowledge the people who think he is not boring or stupid. It is essentially a method which identifies persons specific errors in thinking that produce negative and painful feelings. The most effective intervention is at the cognitive level, wherein if changes are made in the thinking or thoughts of a person, changes in the behavior will follow.

Anger is an emotion, a revolved reaction used on how people react on such situations. There are three form of anger first is hasty and sudden which happens between humans and non-human animals which occurs when trapped or tormented second is named settled and deliberate, a reaction perceived towards unfair treatment by others the last one is the dispositional anger and is related more on our character traits than to instincts. Anger is normal and a healthy emotion, however it is a bad feeling and it causes high blood pressure and even depression. Stress is the root cause of anger, resulting to increased heart rate, blood pressure and levels of adrenaline. Anger sometimes can be very irritating and people become violent, out of control and extremely angry, can be very discomforting for the people around us and can cause harm if not channeled immediately and properly.  Cognitive distortions affect our patterns of thoughts, behavior and reactions. Here, we need people who follow cognitive behavioral therapy, they asses our ways of thinking on how we analyze and interpret situations, which can help us in molding our feelings, emotions and behavior. Through this therapy, it can make us feel better by equipping skills and working upon our thoughts to be our self-counselors.

 The very first and most important step on anger management is acknowledging and realizing the need of it, asking yourself questions what do you need to do to change, to remove anger or being angry as becoming one of your habits. Anger is a behavioral problem and CBT promises best results towards anger. Since anger results to negative emotions, CBT targets alteration to the persons process of thinking, helps control the generation of negative emotions and behaviors and offer events that prevent anger occurrence in ones life ever again. This therapy helps the patient to learn how to manage their anger and use another effective and successful ways of interacting, and also helps in developing alternative ways or key in breaking anger patterns.

Conclusion
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is successful in managing anger problems and is very effective in altering negative thoughts and behaviors of patients. This therapy helps patients control their emotions, helps in avoiding the use of anger as their way of reacting and instead using another and effective ways of behaving.

 However, some patients may not acknowledge that they have this kind of mental disorder, thus they do not consult from CB therapists, and rather they manage their anger in maladaptive ways. Researches on how patients realize this kind of disorder must be conducted and further ways of CBT should be made or developed. There are people who refuse to ask help from therapists because they are afraid or do not believe that they can be helped by them. Since CBT uses practical applications in consulting patients and it takes how more than three weeks in working anger problems, sometimes patients do not participate, stopping them from going on in the therapy. Thus CBT must also provide further ways on how to attract or encourage patients in continuing the therapy so that there could be no intervention during the treatment of the problem.
